Recent initiatives by the port authorities focus on the digitalization of customs processes and the introduction of automated container tracking systems. These upgrades are designed to mitigate the chronic congestion that has historically plagued the port, leading to delays in cargo clearance and increased costs for businesses. By integrating smart technology into the logistics chain, the government hopes to streamline the movement of goods from the ships to the inland container depots.

Beyond the immediate port area, the development of the Bayal Port and the expansion of the Matarbari Deep Sea Port are seen as complementary projects. While Chattogram remains the central artery, the deep-sea capabilities of Matarbari are expected to allow larger vessels to dock, reducing the reliance on feeder ships and lowering freight costs for international traders.
