Bangladesh Clinch Test Series Against Zimbabwe with Commanding Performances

Bangladesh secured a 2-0 Test series victory over Zimbabwe in a two-match series held in Harare, marking a significant achievement for the Tigers as they continue their preparation for upcoming international fixtures. The series, which concluded on Tuesday, saw Bangladesh dominate both matches, showcasing strong performances across all departments.

In the first Test, Bangladesh posted a formidable total of 425 runs in their first innings, led by Najmul Hossain Shanto’s century (112) and contributions from Tanzid Hasan (78) and Mushfiqur Rahim (65). Zimbabwe struggled in response, managing only 187 runs, with Taskin Ahmed taking 5 wickets. Bangladesh then enforced the follow-on, and despite Zimbabwe improving to 256 in their second innings, the Tigers wrapped up the match by 10 wickets, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shoriful Islam sharing the remaining wickets.

The second Test saw a more competitive contest, but Bangladesh maintained control throughout. After scoring 312 in their first innings, featuring half-centuries from Shanto (63) and Liton Das (57), Bangladesh restricted Zimbabwe to 229. In the second innings, Bangladesh needed just 101 runs to win, which they achieved with eight wickets in hand, thanks to a composed 45 from captain Tamim Iqbal and a quickfire 28 from Mehidy Hasan. Taskin Ahmed once again stood out with the ball, claiming 4 wickets in Zimbabwe’s second innings.

Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal praised the team’s resilience and adaptability. “This series win reflects the hard work the team has put in over the past few months. Playing in challenging conditions and adapting to different situations has been key,” he said. Head coach Chandika Hathurusingha highlighted the depth in the squad, noting, “The performance of our bowlers, especially in the second Test, shows we have a strong bowling attack capable of delivering under pressure.”

The victory strengthens Bangladesh’s position in the ICC Test rankings and provides valuable momentum ahead of their upcoming series against New Zealand. It also comes as part of their broader preparations for the 2025 ICC World Test Championship cycle. The BCB has announced plans for a home series against Afghanistan later this year, with the current series win likely boosting confidence for those fixtures.

This series win marks Bangladesh’s first bilateral Test series victory against Zimbabwe since 2018 and underscores their growing competitiveness in Test cricket. With several young players stepping up, the team looks well-positioned to build on this success in the coming months.
